When an unfortunate accident makes you reevaluate and Pivot

Last October 30th, I experienced a night that will forever be etched in my memory. It began like any other evening, but within moments, I was thrust into a whirlwind of panic and fear.

It was a quiet Monday, and I was awakened by the sound of my name, my wife’s voice filled with agony. In my half-asleep state, I initially dismissed it as a bad dream, but the urgency in her screams shattered that illusion. I bolted from my bed, my heart pounding as I rushed to the bathroom, which was only seven feet away.

There, I found my dearest wife lying on the floor, writhing in pain. Her cries pierced through me like a dagger, and I felt my stomach drop. I attempted to help her to her feet, but her screams only grew louder, and it became painfully clear that she had likely suffered a fracture.

The clock read 1:30 AM. With adrenaline coursing through my veins, I dashed to the garage, hastily piled cushions onto a wheeled cart, and, summoning every ounce of strength I had, managed to get her onto the makeshift stretcher. My only goal was to return her to our bed safely.

By the time I had her back in our bed, it was nearly 4 AM. She was in excruciating pain, and I was grappling with the helplessness of the situation. I wanted to call 911, but she adamantly refused to be moved. So, I watched over her, attended to her every need, and ensured she was as comfortable as possible.

But enough was enough. It was an agonizing decision, but I knew we needed professional medical assistance. I dialed 911, and the transition from our bed to the gurney marked another painful but necessary step in this harrowing journey.

Surgery was scheduled for the following morning, and after multiple doses of morphine, my wife finally found some respite. Her suffering was a stark reminder of how fragile life can be, and I couldn’t help but think of those who endure such trials alone.

Dr Ashkenaze – Thank you

Unfortunately, Dr Saad was wearing a mask so I could not find his photograph but I will say Thank You.

Surgery, under the skilled hands of Dr. Ashkenaze and with the vigilant supervision of Dr. Saad ( I hope I read his name correctly), was a success, especially given that it involved a hip replacement. I stayed with my wife for as long as I was permitted, but returning to our empty home was a stark contrast. I was overwhelmed by loneliness and, to distract myself, I turned on the TV, only to be bombarded by the horrors of war.

It was at that moment of solitude and contemplation that I thought back to my own childhood during a time of war in Algeria and, in stark contrast, the dedication and care shown by these two exceptional doctors and their team at #ProvidenceMissionHospital. Dr. Ashkenaze, a Jewish doctor, and Dr. Saad, whose origins I can only guess at, exemplified a level of commitment that transcended any other consideration.

Providence
Thank you

In that hospital, the only concern was for their patient’s well-being. With the exception of one nurse who, in the midst of someone’s pain, displayed a lack of patience, the entire team prioritized healing. These experiences brought the fragility of life and the depth of human connections into sharp focus.

Naturally, when such a life-altering accident occurs, one cannot escape contemplating one’s own mortality. My mind drifted toward worst-case scenarios before my wife’s surgery, but I chose to harness that energy for a different purpose.

As I grappled with retrospective fears, I realized I wanted to make a more significant impact with my life, drawing from the depths of my heart. My own brothers had often mocked me with the phrase, “Daniel wants to save everybody,” and I couldn’t help but remember the words of a Trader Joe’s food buyer: “Daniel, we loved your products, but we carried them long enough. Now you have to reinvent yourself.” Her name was Marie.

These pieces of wisdom converged in my mind, and as a perpetual Silver Lining seeker, I questioned whether both notions were correct in their own way. With this newfound clarity, I reached out to Bing via chat, sharing my thoughts on my wife’s accident, mortality, and how my project could potentially help. I turned to AI for guidance, seeking to understand my path forward.

After digesting the responses and cross-referencing the advice, it became evident that the next step had to align with Marie’s wisdom. It was time to pivot BodyGate AI into something more focused and better adapted to those who needed it the most. The journey ahead now entails a renewed mission:

BodyGate – Your smart concierge-companion for healthy aging.

This harrowing experience has only intensified my determination to make a difference in the lives of those who need it most. My wife, who stood by me in my most challenging moments, has inspired this reinvigorated mission, and I hope to extend that inspiration to countless others.

The Journey of BodyGate AI: From Coffee Klatches to Healthcare Innovation

dotor's visits

At coffee klatches with my buddies, people from all walks of life, we discuss everything under the sun. We used to be around 30 of us, gathering at the same Laguna Beach coffee shop. Over time, life took its course, and many are no longer with us. As the British say, “That’s the way the cookie crumbles.”

Years ago, our conversations revolved around success, achievements, business, love stories, and life experiences. Politics, back then, rarely made its way into our discussions. Laughter was our common language, uniting the funny, witty, stern, and jovial personalities among us. Some found their passion in girls, while others lived and breathed sports. Personally, sports never captivated me; my childhood experiences left me with lasting memories, and not all of them were pleasant.

Our morning gatherings were treasures, a daily “Social Shower” for me. As a Frenchman, I was astounded by the huge collective knowledge that filled our tables. Rain or shine, we were regulars.

However, there was always a somber note when one of us faced health issues. It was during these times that our mortality became a topic of conversation, and our three doctor friends often became the source of wisdom and reassurance.

One day, a friend asked me, “Are you afraid of dying?” My response was consistent with my life philosophy, “As a teenager, I never thought I’d make it to twenty. At twenty, I never thought I’d make it to thirty… and so on. Many of my childhood friends didn’t make it past 17. They were casualties of the Algerian war, not to mention those who faced accidents or health issues. So, yes, I have a respectful apprehension of death. That’s why every day, I look in the mirror and smile. Life is precious, even in its challenges and good or bad I want to enjoy every and each day.

I share this because, in the grand scheme of things, life’s destination is inevitable. So why not embrace it with a smile?

Recently, I reflected on my ventures, my successes, and my failures. I turned to my beloved wife and said, “You know, I’m a lucky guy. Not only did I meet you, but I survived life’s toughest challenges, and here I am. Now, I want to pay it forward.” Her unwavering support led me to a new chapter.

That day, after our coffee gathering, a friend inquired about Richard, the doctor, and his recent blood test results. It triggered a thought. I had been working on an AI project related to Specialty Foods, designed to assist small food manufacturers. However, a chance encounter with a Shark Tank star at a large industry show made me reconsider my approach. “Getting people to a marketplace is very, very difficult and expensive,” he emphasized.

For some reason on the drive home, memories of Jacques, my doctor friend, resurfaced. Years ago, we had contemplated starting a Telemedicine business. Although it never came to fruition, those warm memories lingered.  He was a funny guy and renown California oncologist, originally from Lebanon. As I walked through the door, I shared my revelation after my ten-minute walk at the show with the Shark Tank guy and said to my wife: “I’m changing my approach,” just as the French say, “Changer le fusil d’épaule,” or as a Trader Joe’s buyer once advised, “Daniel, you have to reinvent yourself.”

So, I did.

That day, after my wife had been experiencing for months, unexplained health issues that caused her deep concern, I decided to reinvent myself and embarked on an online AI journey.  I read everything I could and astonished myself at my new found ability at creating algorithms simply by reasoning them.     I was shocked.

That seed was planted nine months ago, and now the flower is ready to bloom. My flower can be summarized in two words: BODYGATE.AI, with one mission statement:                                 “Your Health – Our Passion.”

Of course, this journey wouldn’t have progressed as far as it has without external help, aside from my wife’s of course. I crossed paths with Wassim, a Data Scientist genius from my part of the world, and Asma, a talented yet modest designer. I eagerly await the day when success helps them achieve their dreams too.

3D Printing: The Medical Revolution of Additive Manufacturing

By:David Cain – Attorney

3D printing, also known as additive manufacturing, has charted a course that has transformed industries, reshaping the way we conceive, design, and produce objects. But, like an intrepid explorer setting foot on uncharted lands, 3D printing didn’t stop at mere objects. It ventured into the intricate and delicate realm of the human body, promising to redefine the contours of modern medicine.

At its core, 3D printing is a symphony of precision and design. It meticulously layers material upon material, building structures from the ground up, much like nature’s own process of creation. This isn’t just about creating objects; it’s about breathing life into visions, turning digital blueprints into tangible realities. The technology’s genesis can be traced back to the 1980s, where it began as a tool for rapid prototyping. But, as with all great explorations, its potential was boundless, waiting to be harnessed.

The medical field, ever-evolving and always in pursuit of the next breakthrough, recognized this potential. Here was a tool that could craft not just inanimate objects, but intricacies that could meld with the human form, aid it, and even transform it. From the creation of anatomically accurate models for surgical planning to the development of custom prosthetics tailored to an individual’s unique physiology, the medical realm welcomed 3D printing with open arms. This wasn’t just a technological dalliance; it was the dawn of a new era………..
